Cardiology

Our Cardiovascular Department in partnership with Mount Sinai Hospital presents new and unique opportunities for medical consultation. You can get a second opinion from our best in the industry of cardiovascular and nuclear medicine physicians.

Our Cardiovascular Department is equipped with the latest medical technology for noninvasive studies.

Our Nuclear Lab is ICANL certified. It is a very prestigious certification which demonstrates the highest level of quality and professionalism provided to patients. As of March 2008 many insurances will restrict non ICANL certified Labs from providing Stress Test to their members.

All tests that may be required for your cardiovascular assessment are performed right here in our office.

If hospitalization is needed you will be referred to one of the best cardiology department in Mount Sinai Hospital where your own cardiologist will follow-up on you.

We offer a wide range of cardiovascular tests and services:
  • Nuclear Treadmill Stress Test
  • Nuclear Pharmacological Stress Test
  • Exercise Stress Test
  • 2D Echocardiogram
  • Carotid Doppler
  • Holter monitoring
  • 24-hour Blood Pressure monitoring
  • Arterial Doppler of lower extremities
  • Venous Doppler of lower extremities
  • External Counter-Pulsation (ECP)
  • ASHD, CAD, Hypertension, Dysrythmias and other cardiovascular conditions
Nuclear Stress Test (Treadmill and Pharmacological)

Nuclear Stress Test is one of the most up-to-date cardiovascular tests. This test is noninvasive. Only the latest and very precise equipment can be used to perform tests like this one. That's why we have new Gamma Philips Cardio MD III. This system has excellent resolution and picture clarity, which plays a big role in the treatment decision. Unique system design has two detectors. This speed up the scanning process and makes it more comfortable for patients. Besides all studies are done in one day, even for patients that suffer from being overweight.

As the patient exercises during nuclear stress testing, images are taken of the heart to assess blood flow to the heart muscle. Exercise in the form of walking on a treadmill. A Pharmacological Stress Test utilizes the drugs adenosine or dobutamine to provide similar information about the heart's blood flow. This form of nuclear stress testing is used with patients who are unable to exercise rigorously.

We accept patients with lung disease (e.g. asthma) for dobutamine stress test.

Exercise Stress Test

A Stress Electrocardiogram Test allows doctors to learn how well your heart functions when it is made to work harder. This test can help detect heart problems that may not be apparent at rest. The exercise EKG test is done while you walk on a treadmill. During the test, an electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) records the electrical activity of your heart.

ECP - External Counter-Pulsation Therapy

ECP is a noninvasive circulatory assist therapy that increases circulation, reduces the symptoms of angina by stimulating the small branches of blood vessels which circumvent the blocked arteries. ECP is an excellent treatment option for patients who do not want surgery, who have angina, even a failed angioplasty, bypass surgery or both and patients with congestive heart failure.

ECP is also successfully used for impotence, leg pain and other conditions.

Echocardiogram

An Echocardiogram is a test that uses ultrasound waves to examine the heart. It is a safe and painless procedure that allows doctors to see the heart beating, visualize many of the structures of the heart and receive a clear picture of heart function that helps diagnose a variety of heart problems.

Arterial Doppler

It is the most sensitive and earliest detection of heart disease.

Arterial Doppler examinations evaluate the blood flow in the legs or arms. The test is often done when there are symptoms of leg or arm pain at rest or pain in the legs or arms with exercise, which eases up when exercise is stopped. It is also performed on patients who have numbness or tingling in the hands or feet and when ulcerations form on the fingers, toes, or legs.

All people with Diabetes should do this test once a year. This test is also indicated to people with leg pain, numbness and tingling sensation and smokers.

Venous Doppler

A Venous Doppler Ultrasound will identify and find blood clots in the deep veins of the legs.

This test indicated to people with vein disorders and leg pain.

Holter Monitoring

This is a continuous ambulatory Electrocardiogram monitor which is capable of detecting any transient rhythm disorders of the heart over a prolonged period of 24 hours to 10 days in the patients own home or work environment or even during sleep. The test is indicated in patients with fainting spells, giddiness and palpitations. Such patients may not have an abnormal heart rhythm upon seeing their doctor. However, the abnormal heart rhythm may occur at home or at work. The Holter monitor may record such events at such times.
